Autosnap variable changes when I invoke or leave DDEDIT

Anyone having an issue with V19 and DDEDIT? Every time I invoke the command, I get a popup and beep declaring that the autosnap varialble is being changed to 0. I have to acknowledge it before proceeding. When I quit DDEDIT, the popup returns to tell me the variable is being changed back.

  • Jim,
sadly, we're getting a lot of fake replies on forum posts.
Typically they consist of some general remark into which a link to an advertisement page is embedded, or worse.
We remove them as they are noticed: this could be what occurred in this case.
    Kind regards,

Thanks for answering. I guess no one else has experienced the problem. The support group thought I had some sort of LISP file loaded. I'll have to get the IT manager to reinstall the program.

  • The support group suggested this might be caused by a LISP file I had loaded. I ran APPLOAD, and deleted all the LISP files I had loaded. No change. Not that any of the LISP files I was using had code that could generate the messages. And I have been using those LISP files for years. I do not write LISP files and know very little about the process. But I have heard there are other ways to load them. Someone suggested checking the paths listed under the SRCHPATH string (registry).. Deleting all those paths and restarting the application fixed the problem. I opened the folders pointed to by those paths, but could not find any LISP files. So I don't know why this worked.

Any lisp files whose names and paths are included in "on_doc_load.lsp" and "on_start.lsp" (in the Support sub-folder under Program Files/Bric... etc.) are loaded automatically. You could open each file listed in either of those files and do a search for the string DDEDIT.

Thanks. I checked that earlier. No mention of any LISP files or the DDEDIT command in "on_doc_load.lsp" or "on_start.lsp"

  • Have you tried the command .ddedit (note the leading period) ?

My apologies for the VERY late response Anthony. I'm not very familiar with forums. I assume if I had the account options setup correctly, I'd be notified of posts. As it is, I have to try and remind myself to visit the forum from time to time. Frankly, I don't spend much time at the forum these days, as am battling some difficult health problems. My energies are devoted to my job and fighting the problems.

At any rate, that is a good idea. However the problem stopped occuring in May. If it happens again, I will try your suggestion.
    Happy New Year.
