BIM / IFC file stucture

i am new to BricsCAD and BIM,

We are a company that works with special structures in and outside buildings. We use a lot of different sort of materials.

i am struggling with the structure of the files. what is the best way:
A: every structure in a separate file and join them with references? An export to IFC makes from each xref an separate part,
B; one big file with all the disciplines in one file? makes a better IFC file with separate parts for clashing etc.

whats your experience or maybe some tips and tricks?

If you are working with large files, such as several buildings on a site, then making using of xrefs will be of benefit. It also allows multiple people to work on the same project.

You can use BIMCLASSIFY to classify your xrefs. That way they will be included automatically when you output to IFC.

When you IMPORT an IFC it is also possible via SETTINGS to set BricsCAD to automatically create Xrefs from the IFC.

  • thanks jason, classify the xref was the missing step.
maybe you know a trick to only import a part of an IFC?
