DYNAMIC BLOCK

Cannot REFEDIT anonymous blocks. This includes dynamic blocks.

Aboce quote keepon appear in my drawing what should i do about it?

  • here is the file, when you draw to a certain time it will pop up and mention dynamic block and couldnt save.

  • Hi Kerloo,

BricsCAD does not use dynamic blocks in its programming in comparison to AutoCAD. BricsCAD creates dynamic blocks differently to AutoCAD and therefore is not able to REFEDIT dynamic blocks from other sources. Your only workaround would be to to EXPLODE individual blocks and WBLOCK/BLOCK it again in BricsCAD.

  • The reason BricsCAD doesn't do AutoCAD-style dynamic blocks is because Autodesk patented them. Nice, huh? See https://forum.bricsys.com/discussion/31599/autodesk-dynamic-block-patents

  • There seems to be a slight difference between parametric blocks and autocad dynamic blocks, that I dont't really understand.
Parametric blocks are widely used, for example in BIM componentes, and Sketchup. I have some experience with Bricscad, Autocad, SketchUp and Tekla, and Autocad sure is by far not the best way of doing dynamic blocks. Users wont care if we call it dynamic blcok or parametric component, as long as we can adjust individual instances of blocks without doing too much programing. The Autodesk patent does not stop others from doing this.

I hope that Bricscad will come a littler closer to SketchUp and Tekla, and nobody would miss Autocad dynamic blocks at all. Here some features that I really miss in BricsCAD parametric blocks:

    • Only numeric parameters are allowed, no logic parameters or texts
    • It's not possible to use parameters to control other properties besides geometry, as color, material, visibility, for example
    • Operations with parameters are not reversible. Example: I draw a bar with a parameter for length, and include a hole. If I change the length of the bar to be so short that the hole disappears, it won't come back when making the bar longer again.
    • There is no way to interact directly with the mouse on the block, for example to change dimensions by pushing at some grip points
    • Would be really great if a parametric component could be linked to others, to use parameters of linkes blocks in formulas for parameters
I am really glad with all the improvements of V19, but there is still a long way to go.

Agree with your points. I recommend, if you haven't already done so, that you raise a support request with Bricsys to consider adding these features.

Regarding Holes, the option here is to create the hole using a sub-component. Doing this allows you to parametrize the hole arrangement and you can force a refresh if the hole disappears due to a model change. Attach an example model.

Parameters can be linked, again the attached model provides an example. Or perhaps you mean something else?

I think it would be useful if BricsCAD gave a more robust alert when a change is invoked on the model that causes a loss of constraints. This is reported on the command line but is easy to miss. Frustrating to lose complex constraints without realising.
