Document Management Apps and Your Experiences

Can someone comment on their experiences including limitations or compatibility issues using BricsCAD with a document management application such as an Autodesk Vault or similar technology?

Most companies I know avoid Vault like the plague, even with autocad. You will likley need to hit the adesk forums for how acad behaves with them, and likely bcad will be the same. Your question is likely too exotic for this forum, we'll see.

  • I greatly appreciate your input and view. I will explore your suggestions as time allows. Since this is the "Other" forum I must add: Isn't it less stressful and a bit more enjoyable working with this high-quality type of "Other" CAD?

  • I am forced to use Vault at my current workplace, its dreadful, clunky and a complete PITA! I avoid all Awfuldesk software for many reasons.
M-Files is a good alternative document management software and I have used that extensively with CAD packages.

I sympathize, hang in there. I've seen great cad managers fall by choosing bad doc mgmt systems. Makes me wonder if there are any good ones.

Having worked on autocad since ver 10, and learned customization in lisp, vba and .net to bridge gaps in it, I can say bricscad is wonderful to work in.
Its actually better so long as you have the add on tools you need. Its faster and more reliable in my experience.
When things fail in acad, I tell people to open in Bricscad and finish the job or repair the problem.

I expect bcad pricing to go up in years to come, as it gains momentum. We are getting a bargain right now.

  • Hey James,

I learned on release 10 and 11 as well. I really have been impressed by the new code concept with BricsCAD in installation time and in preserving customization just to mention a few points.

LISP is not dead though our chosen software.

    Thanks again!
