BIMDIMENSION how does it work?

I have Mechanical Blocks in Modelspace.

In paper space a viewport with the blocks in top view.

Run BIDIMENSION nothing automatically get selected, crossing window won't select anything can't click inside the VP to select (obvioously its PS only).

Go back to Modelspace select all objects run BIMIFY, classified them as Structural.

Back to Paperspace ran BIMDIMENSION, same result nothing get selected and cannot select anything.

So how's it supposed to work, what preconditions need to be satisfied?

Ultimately wanting to see if it's possible to Auto or Semi Auto dimension typical PS viewports, Top, Front, Left views. Dimensioning in AC/BC is far too manual, too much work, there's no nice conveniences that make it easier/less manual work, eg not even stringed dimensions.

    BIMDIMENSION is useful for dimensioning entities in paper space views created using the BIMSECTIONUPDATE command.

    BIMDIMENSION indeed only works on viewports created in paperspace with the BIMSECTIONUPDATE command. Please create a support request if you want this functionality to be extended.
