exploding non-linear

I have a survey that I am trying to trim the countour lines. I can't trim, break or explode. When I list each line this is what it says:properties: non-open, non-plana, non-peridoic, non-rational, non-linear?Does anyone know why it says this and how I can work with these?Thanks,Paul
