do Bricscad users, that use LTS releases for 5-10 years, really use the latest Bricscad version and maintanance ?
Good point. (Ubuntu 16.04 is less than 4 years old, still your point is valid.)
I tend to be reluctant to u…
@RoatanBill Thanks for your insights, I am learning!
The idea that I had in mind for the future was to
* keep the builds/installers we have now
* upgrade our build system sooner
* also publish an Appimage variant so older systems are covered too…
Can you not statically link your executable so that it won't look for local libraries?
That may be worth a try.
Although personally I think something like Appimage/Flatpack/Snap may make more sense.
you KNOW what people are running
We are on this problem. It is not yet resolved, but we are getting closer. Can you try to disable RESTORELOSTFOCUS and the lookfrom? According to my findings the problem then no longer happens. Naturally the lookfrom is still needed, but at leas…
The quickest way to print to a physical printer is to open "Print Preview..." from the file menu in BricsCAD. This opens the printed PDF in the standard Preview app, after which you can print to any printer known to your macOS system.
For the record, there has been a fix in BricsCAD(Linux) V19.2.15 and BricsCAD(Mac) V19.2.12 for this problem.
(which was already communicated to Hans Hermans in a support request)
Fixed improper size of True Type font te…
I would suspect something went wrong with copying the thumbnails from installation to user data.
In the en_US installation, thumbnails should be in /opt/bricsys/bricscad/v19/UserDataCache/Support/en_US/Bim/Components/.resources
To be able to upgrade that dependency we had to upgrade wxWidgets, the GUI library that we use. We have done so for V20, we cannot do this for V19 anymore (too disruptive). Now that we are on the newest wxWidgets, we also still have to move from g…
The software center can be very confusing indeed. I prefer using GDebi Package Installer.
On commandline, I usesudo dpkg -i /path/to/deb/file.
There has been an update to PDFium during V19.2, resulting in a newly added library file that was missing in the installer.
I published an installer update V19.2.10-3.
PDFATTACH now works, but only if the pdf cache is disabled (set PDFCACHE to 0).
I just published V19.2.10 without webkit dependency. I indeed adapted the build configuration and rebuilt BricsCAD entirely. It took a while to get it right, I encountered a few unexpected complications, so it goes.
The tar.gz download we offer i…
error while loading shared libraries: libwebkitgtk-1.0.so.0
Right, sorry about that, I will eliminate that dependency asap.
libwebkitgtk-1.0.so.0 is excluded from recent distributions since it has security issues.
Therefore we decided to publ…
Hello Michael, there is a fair change that MTFLAGS will make a big difference, to use multiple threads during open, regen, redraw...
MTFLAGS is not enabled by default as using multiple threads increases the risk on timing-related crashes. That sai…
Under the hood BricsCAD uses ffmpeg to create videos. If ffmpeg is not found, then as a fallback a set of PNG files is created.
We probably should add ffmpeg to the installer of BricsCAD(Mac). Please enter a support request about this.
I've been postponing an answer to this post...
Timing promises are dangerous, so I intentionally will not mention time frames.
We have been publishing BricsCAD releases first on Windows, then later on Mac, and even later on Linux.
For V20 we inte…
I think it is fundamentally wrong to have any setting in a program where the setting can be changed but changing the setting does nothing.
You surely have a point there. BricsCAD has too many settings exposed to the end-user.
We should have si…
that is right, starting from V18.2 BricsCAD indeed always prints to PDF, on Mac and Linux.
About the decision to always print to PDF:
The 'detour' of printing to PDF brings the major advantage that the difficult job of directly printi…
The command SAVEFILEFOLDER opens the folder where automatically saved documents are stored.
By default the target folder is a temporary location generated by OSX.
Another target folder can be chosen by means of the BricsCAD setting SAVEFILEPATH.
It is not possible out of the box.
The user profile manager can be used on all platforms to export/import user profiles to/from arg files.
However, in general the settings variables are not interchangeable. Most notably, all paths will be platfor…
By chance, do you have Communicator V18.1 installed on the same machine?
Internally we came across that very error message when loading Communicator V18.1 inside BricsCAD V18.2 (on Linux or on Mac OSX).
Normally Shape does not attempt to load Comm…
For what it's worth, even without the fix it is possible to insert a field in the value of an inserted attribute. After having inserted a block containing an attribute definition, double click on the attribute, then right click on the value to inse…
Indeed, as Torsten points out all those libraries are part of BricsCAD itself, not caused by missing package dependencies but by incomplete loader search path.
By design BricsCAD requires that the installation directory is added into LD_LIBRARY_PAT…
But why a new (View) Renderer, I thought Redway would provide
all graphics framework now.
Not all, 2D wireframe rendering does not use RedSDK.
And even for 3D through RedSDK, there's still a wrapper on our side...
We noticed Apple's announcement too.
It means more work, for sure, but it does not mean the end.
We just need to create a new renderer, that's all.
Normally the bulk of the effort should be for Redway.
A colleague already informed Redway about …
For Cleanscreen functionality on Linux (and Mac), V18.2 will be needed, which has yet to appear.
The feature requires a platform-specific implementation (at least parts of it). For V18.1 only the Windows flavour was ready.
