ICad, Any Good??
I am starting my own architectural firm and have been using ArchT and Architectural Desktop 2.0 for the last three years. I heard ICad 98 was buggy and did not read/write dwg format as good as they bragged, true? What don't you folks like about the program?Wayne

Wayne,We use Icad mostly for 2D mechanical dwgs and schematics. No rendering or 3D or serious architectural so I cant comment on those things but:Most of us I believe were AutoCAD users and, if you read some of the old posts, you will find that AutoCADs high price tag (purchase and support/upgrades) and uninspired customer service pushed us toward the greatly affordable Icad. There have been heated discussions on whether charging $95 for and upgrade is fare or right and what exactly we should expect from the service provider.Although I have my issues (unaddressed but well known bugs) I have found the customer service and tech support to be much better than my earlier dealings with Acad and their reps (the ones we used anyway who, eventually had thier rep status revoked by Autodesk). We here have never had any problems importing/exporting DWGs and DXFs. Though we cannot plot drawing we get from our East coast office. We can view and edit them fine but the plotter fails half way through the plot and gives an error code that does not exist. And they (East coast office) use the same version of Icad we do. Go figure. We belive that the problem is not Icad at all but a third party add on package the use and we dont. Its sticking something in the file our plotter does not like (they use a different plotter). I dont know it add ons are an issue for you. I have had problems with Acad add ons too though.Mostly we are happy with it. Earlier versions we used had the Electrical Dept seriously thinking of tossing it in the trash and going back to Acad but they have been happy lately.J
