v4 "quirks"

Hi folksA couple of v4 annoyances that could do with sorting out:-Zoom>Previous just doesn't seem to work any more, and Zoom>Out seems to give unpredictable results, sometimes zooming to very unexpected magifications. The print settings routine seems to have decided all my drawings are in imperial (they aren't) and want to be printed to fit the paper (they don't) - which means re-setting for each drawing and re-setting all the pens to the correct line-widths. A chore!Anything you can do about these, lads?Otherwise, very nice... it's definitely getting better all the time!Phil BixbyYork, UK

  • Hi Phil,About printing. Print settings, such as color/penwidth tables are now saved in the drawing file. As a matter of fact these settings can be saved for each paper space layout seperately. Drawings created with previous versions read settings from the registry. Apparently these settings cannot be changed by the user. Our programmers are already looking into this problem. In order to print 'old' drawings without having to reset all print settings for each drawing I use the following work-around:1. Create a new drawing in which you set all print settings to. The drawing itself remains empty.2. Use the Xref Manager to attach the drawing you want to print (switch off Insertion Point and Scale to insert the drawing at the origin).3. If you want to print another drawing, use the BROWSE / SAVE PATH procedure to exchange the referenced drawing.

  • Phil,About zooming. Zoom Previous seems to work correctly on my machine and I cannot see 'unpredictable' results when zooming out. Please notice that the 'dynamic' zoom (using shift/Ctrl and the mouse) is not stored in the Zoom Previous buffer.

  • I seem to have the "Imperial" bug too. I have to readjust the pen weights for each drawing/session.

  • Finally someone else is having the print settings problem. I have been complaining about this for 2 years. Until it is fixed, you might try these settings for the mm:Scale: 1"=20' use 1=0.7874 1"=40' use 1=1.5748 1"=100' use 1=3.937Line weights: .01"=0.254 .015"=0.381 .02"=0.508 .025"=0.635 .03"=0.762 .035=0.889 0.04"=1.016I have never lost these settings during a session once I came up with this work-around. I had several other work-arounds, but this has been the most effective.

  • I don't know why my post (above) listed me as "Guest" but I am the one. I forgot to mention that last night I was up all hours trying to get V4Pro to print my fonts correctly. They kept printing with weird pointy, extentions on some of the letters. I finally, after using fonts from previous versions without luck, uninstalled and went back to a previous version.

  • Repeated zooming, can sometimes cause either blank screen of a solid colour or crash. This happens more with drawings containing blocks.

  • The problem with the system "hanging" when using fly-over intersection snap on drawings with multiple polylines still exists.

  • Just noticed another "quirk" - all me circles and arcs are printing with facets (ie as a string of straight lines) - looks all very "retro" but not really what I want. Anyone else getting this? Printer is HP DesignJet so is pretty standard. Thanks!Phil

  • The circles/arcs problem sounds a little like the weird font printing I was getting. I am not using V4 and won't until these basic things are corrected. V3.3.0024 works pretty good. I guess I have to wait to get a return on my latest $95 upgade investment.

  • I'm having these print problems too. First of all, REGENALL does not update paperspace viewports anymore - surely this is a bug. To get a decent print of arc/circle segments, I have to zoom into an arc, exit and reopen the drawing (or MOVE ALL 0,0 -> 0,0 while inside viewport)Strange how the viewport arc resolution is used for prints.

  • we made a fix now for the problem of polygonal representation of arcs in viewports. It will be in our update. The polygons appear if you draw a circle and zoom out. Then zoom extents. The smaller the value of system variable of ZOOMPERCENT, the stronger the effect. We're going to check regenall too. regards, sander

  • Tony , we(well, actually the ITC) definitely fixed a temporary 'hanging' with polylines and intersection snaps. If you can reproduce such a problem, it's another one. please help us find it. regards, sander, bricscad

  • My mistake. You have done a good job fixing the flyover "hanging" in intersection snap. Well done!
