DDRecover - wotzitdo?
Does anyone know what ddrecover does? I downloaded the manual but it's not in there. One file I tried it on was reduced to 0 bytes and had to restore the bak file.Probably unrelated, a group of other (foreign) files created .r18 files when opened in Icad 4.1.0017- What are they for, is r18 = Acad 2004? If it is then the conversion works very well just like most of this iteration.

we explained it in the readme. The module R18toR15 does several things- convert dwg 2004 files in the background for IntelliCAD. If you open a file in intellicad , and it is 2004 format, the module will convert it to 2000 before allowing IntelliCAD to proceed. The original file is backed up with the extension R18. - recover problem files. The module copies the original to a .bak file and then overwrites it with a recovered file. It's possible that recovery fails, and it can also happen that recovery is too radical, that a lot of data is lost. Let's place an 'empty file' result in the first category. If you have a systematic problem with the data, please let us know. Then we need to investigate.- dwf export: this is our latest addition.regards,Alexander Van Heuverzwyn,Bricscad

Thank you Sander, I did look but could not find. I sort of assumed that was it, but I am now less perturbed about why the one I tried it on was reduced to 0 - it really did not need recovering. Some smart-alec must have sent me some A2004 files, either out of ignorance that most would probably have no way of reading them or as a statement that they were more "modern". The files converted automatically with no fuss at all, not even a little acknowledgement Icad had done something else clever. Most impressed again!
