Auto save crashes

I've been using Intellicad since the 98 version and have always had problems with crashes while executing commands when the autosave kicks in. In past versions I've disabled it at times when it was causing more problems than it saved. I've been having intermitent problems with it lately. I have downloaded all the updates and it still pops up every now and then. My computer is fairly up to date with adequate RAM. Is this a common problem or is there a know cause for this?

  • I also started with Icad at I98 and always used Win98. Of all the "issues" causing crashes in the past I never had this trouble. I do save often, a habit learned from numerous unstable Autocad versions. Maybe the frequent saving helps.

  • This is not a common problem that was reported before, it looks like something related to the specific hardware/software configuration used, else we probably would have had countless reports from Win98 users. What we notice on a more general level is that on Win98 there tend to be much more of such intermittent and hard-to-explain problems than on Win2000 and WinXP. Of course that will be of little help to you... The truth about it, is that it is very hard to find the cause of such problem because it is so difficult or impossible to reproduce on other setups. If on the other hand you can provide us with a scenario that allows to trigger the problem, we will be very glad to solve it.

  • Hans, I am running windows XP and have not had much of a problem with it lately, but had 2 crashes yesterday so I've been trying to make a note of what I was doing when it happened. Both of these times I think that I was doing a dynamic pan and zoom when the autosave kicked in and crashed me. I have some drawings that will always crash me when I save, but I think that these are corrupt in some way and have to work on them in Autocad. I copy a lot of things from drawing to drawing and I tend to get a mixtrue of things that were originally created on Autocad, Intellicad '98, v3, and V4. I notice that when I do an audit in autocad, most of the drawings done in Intellicad show a lot of errors in them even after they have been "fixed" in autocad. I don't have any trouble with any of these drawings in autocad, but I don't like it as I think Intellicad does the simpler more common tasks easier. I prefer to use Intellicad, but have been battling different forms of instability with every version.

  • I also noticed crashes when the autosave comes in. I also had the impression that autosave doesn't wait until a running command is finished. ICAD also regularly crashed when I opend a dxf-file and saved it as dwg. However, recently things have eased up considerably, I still experience an occasional crashbut I couldn't yet find out what triggers it. I have BIG problems with version 4.1.0036, it crashes right on launching the program, no way to even reach the interface.Running NT.

  • I have a great deal of trouble with some files from Autocad, and they have some trouble with mine unless I saveas R14.
