Bug in 4.1.0040

I've reported this problem to Bricscad and they've acknowledged it as being a problem. The TEXT FIT option does not work with TrueType fonts on Windows98 machines. I was told they were going to work on a fix for this several versions ago, but it still hasn't been fixed. Now I hear that a new upgrade will be coming out soon - version 5! I've posted this problem to the Bricscad support page, but never received a response. Can this problem be fixed BEFORE we have to purchase a new upgrade license???

  • Dear Steve, though we indeed did not answer all the times that you reported this problem, we did investigate the problem and confirmed to you that we intend to fix it. This text fitting problem occurs on Win98, when more than approx. 29 characters of TrueType text need to be fitted. To fix this properly may seem trivial, but it isn't... It is caused by a defect in the TrueType text fitting function of the MicroSoft Windows 98 API, which unfortunately is beyond our 'influence'. Writing your own TrueType text fitting or a workaround takes some time. It is in our development schedule for the near future, unfortunately it will miss the initial V5 release. The decision to increase the major version number of BricsCad IntelliCad is based on new and improved features. Besides these features, V5.0 contains 200+ fixes compared to v4.0. so it wouldn't be fair to make it look as if we don't care about fixing the bugs that are reported. Assigning priority to fixes is a task that we take very seriously and it may often lead to heated debate. Sadly and unavoidably it causes disappointment for issues that get lower priority than felt appropriate. This even holds true for BricsCad employees who had hoped to see 'their' fixes being addressed sooner... That's life. The good news is that your waiting is almost over: we will work on this problem in July.Best regards and thanks for your patience,Hans De Backer
