XREF path

Is there a way to specify a path for XREF's so that it will always default to the same folder as the the current drawing file that you have open? We keep our XREF's together in the same folder as the drawings that refer to them. It would be nice not to have to browse to that folder everytime you have to attach or reload an XREF.

  • Select Tools...Options...Paths and empty the Path setting for XRefs. This will result in the behaviour you desire: when attaching Xrefs the default folder where browsing starts will be the folder of the active drawing.Best regards,Hans De Backer - Development BricsCad

  • I tried this, but it defaults to the folder where BricsCad IntelliCad is located - the program startup folder. I'm running under Windows98, if that makes any difference.

  • With intellicad open you can remove the path from the xref and it will look in the same directory as the drawing you opened for the drawing you want to xref into your current drawing. But when you close out of the program the pathway fills back in with the default settings. Is there some way to keep this field blank after you close out of the program, or is this a bug.

  • You are right about empty paths being reinitialized to a default value when restarting the program. This seems to have been done to 'help' users by trying to fill in 'something that makes sense'. Debateable design...Anyway, there seems to be a workaround: instead of an empty path, enter ".\" (that is: a dot and a backslash, no spaces). This is a path that in fact points to the current path, and it does not get overwritten...

  • Sorry - none of these solutions will do what I want to do. I would like the XREF path to default to the folder of the currently opened drawing file. An empty path and ".\" default to the folder where the program is stored (...\BricCad). Is this another one of those things that only occur with Windows98? I guess I'll just have to continue to browse to the currently opened drawing file folder when I attach my XREF's.
