v5 wobbly

Hi FolksI've recently installed v5 and while I do like the extra functionality, it does seem very crash-prone in the version I'm using - v5.0.0006. I've had repeated crashes when doing fairly innocuous things such as moving blocks and Xrefs, and creating a new layer and then changing its colour. The former of these problems seemed sensitive to view - in plan view it would crash every time I selected a particular block and then selected "move" or "copy", if I changed to another view (one of the axonometric views) it would work okay. Are these glitches being ironed out? At the moment I have to keep going back to using v4 when I really need to get things done!As a further whinge... any chance of making bug-fix versions available which are simpler to install? Every time I update I have to go through a rather elaborate process of reconstituting my personalised toolbar setup!ThanksPhil B

  • My 4.1.0017 was not very stable when first installed, until I turned off the Object Properties toolbar. It used to give a crash message which gave a clue to it. Now it is almost bullet proof.

  • Hi Phil, from what you write, it sounds like you have one or more reproducible crash scenarios. We are eager to investigate what goes wrong and provide a solution without delay. Please submit a Support Request and add files and descriptions that will allow us to reproduce (and fix) the problems. Since releasing V5 (which contains a ton of new code) one month ago now, we have had 3 alarming problem reports coming in, about very frequently occuring crashes. There seems to be a pattern: these crashes occur when processing drawings (often created with Intellicad V3.x.xxxx) that contain corrupt elements (Dimadec and Dimassoc elements). A solution for this problem is to run our Recover utility or the AutoDesk Audit utility. Also: we are about to release an updated version that is more tolerant for corrupted elements. Still, what you describe sounds different. so please provide us with something to examine, we'll be most grateful.Concerning less elaborate update installations: for over one year now we have been experimenting with providing 'patch' installsets to our beta testers, and we remain reluctant to make these patches publicly available... Writing an installer that is capable of installing a complex CAD software on all Windows variants with their specific quirks is not to be taken lightly, let alone providing partial installers and get them to behave well-mannered.Further, perhaps this is not really what you're asking for: do I understand correctly that you're looking for a kind of checkbox in the installer: 'Preserve existing toolbar setup'? (well knowing that this will deprive you from new toolbar icons and modifications...)Best regards,Hans De Backer

  • Hans,How about including a note in the readme file describing what is changed in toolbars and icons with each update? Or, a way to save a previous setup so we can go back?Vaughn
