Items disapearing while working

I supervise the CAD work at my company, and have purchased the current BricsCAD Pro for a new seat. The main problem he user runs into is that items will disapear under certain situations. He was adding a fillet, and the portion of the solid where he added the fillet would disappear. However, as he rotated the view around or paned, they would reappear. So I assume this is a display problem. However, he also tells me of other times where a large portion of a drawing (even a 2-d drawing) would disappear after doing multiple undo's. In this case he tried to save and re-open the drawing, but the items were still missing. When items disappear, a regen will generally not bring them back. I should add that this user is fresh out of school, with about 1 year of AutoCAD training. A newer user will find bugs much more difficult to track because they have a harder time discerning when a problem is caused by the program or by user error. At this point, he is so frustrated we may just need to ask for a refund and give a bunch of money to Autodesk. But I am certainly trying to avoid that. Any advice about disappearing items?

  • I think Icad does not refresh the display in quite as many instances as Acad. Most beginners have blind confidence in the machine and don't save very often, bitter experience (with Acad too) has taught me otherwise. I suspect it releases some resources as well as the safety feature, although a software expert might correct me. There was an undo bug which I believe can resurface if you really push your luck with intensive activity without saving. Acad might have improved since I used it last but 4.1.0040 is certainly the most stable of any cad software I have used.

Rotating the view causes the needed redraw. So will typing 'r' for redraw, or even scrolling the middlemousewheel one tick. The mousewheel may be the easiest way to do a fast redraw when in doubt.Does the incomplete redraw occur on some solids but not on others? Or is it independent of the kind of solid?> However, he also tells me of other times where a> a large portion of a drawing (even a 2-d drawing)> would disappear after doing multiple undo's. Could you switch on the logfile by enabling the line about 'logfilemode' in the icad.lsp file? This way you can send us a listing of the command sequence at the moment the problem occurs.Alexander Van Heuverzwyn,Bricscad

  • I have had similar issues with the UNDO command in v5. So far it has always been while editing or modifying drawings made with an earlier version of ICAD. My solution has been to load these drawings using the RECOVER command. That seems to work.

  • The command being used to attempt to restore the vanished object is REGEN. Am I correct that this is the most aggressive command to use, which should restore any display problems?

  • Redraw (you could call it refresh) )usually is enough. Regen recreates the display . If the creation of an object has been undone (too many undo steps), regen will not help .When working in viewports, regenall can be needed in some cases. For example, if you draw entities in paperspace, and if you draw one of these over a viewport, and then go into the viewport, you will no longer see the entity over the viewport. A regenall is needed to see this paperspace entity again.
