layout tabs
Is there any way to make the layout tabs reflect different layer settings (freeze/thaw or on/off)? I can set up several layout tabs in order to print different parts of my drawing, however the view in all the tabs displays the same layers. So I can switch to a different tab and get a new view, but I still have to reset all the layer visibility settings. The freeze thaw "current viewport" settings in the Bricscad explorer don't appear to have any impact on the display or print. Regardless of how the current viewport freeze/thaw are set the same layers display and print in each of the layout tabs. Is there something I am missing?

I could never get that to work, and now I use xclip instead of pspace I would still like to be able to think of a way for different instances of an xref insertion to display different layers.I can freeze certain layers to display certain parts of blocks or xrefs in different drawings, can't help thinking there is a way to do it in the same file but I'm too dumb to manage it.

I think this is the same question as asked inhttp://www.bricsys.com/protected/en_INTL/support/forumthread.jsp?id=6496unless I'm missing something.I've not use xref so can't comment on that aspect.

That's the question I took it to mean. Selective freezing of layers in multiple viewports, I should say has not worked for me in the past. Couldn't say if it works now because I gave up on it a few versions ago (perhaps not Bricscad then), and also because some of my work is for a gov't client which bans paperspace so I just make it policy to use xclip instead. If something does not work in one version or does not translate onto another .dwg platform, it's risky using it for jobs which leave the office even when it is fixed because it still might fail the other end.I am interested because if there was a workaround (even if the problem is fixed now) it might also be usable with xclipped drawings.

As I posted in the other tread, in Layout tab, select ModelSpace (Tilemode off), select the relevant Viewport, open Bricscad Explorer and Freeze any unwanted layers under the Current Viewport heading. Finally return to Paperspace.See also http://www.cadinfo.net/icad/vplayer.htm

The instructions at http://www.cadinfo.net/icad/vplayer.htm got it working for me. It would be nice if the layers in paperspace could be frozen in the same way as the viewports, but I managed to figure a way to set up my sheets to work around it. Using the Bricscad Explorer in the viewport makes it a lot simpler to do. Good tip. Thanks everyone!

Hi,If I understand the questions, they are 1) how do you set up mulitple viewports showing different layers and 2) how do you have mulitple instances of a single xref with different layers showing. For question 1, try the command "VPLAYER" while in paper space. It allows you to freeze/thaw layers by viewport window. I've never had any problems with it although I do need to remember to turn all layers on in model space before plotting - the individual paperspace viewports will turn off layers that shouldn't be plotted if they're on in model space, but it won't turn them on in the viewport if they're off in model space. (By on and off I also mean thawed and frozen.)Question 2 is more tricky. After you insert the first instance of the xref go to DDRENAME and rename the xref (under blocks) to something unique, then make another xref to the original file. The layer visibility of each will be kept separate. Be sure VISRETAIN is on or you'll lose the layer arrangement after closing the drawing.

Just to add some confusion to the discussion...In AutoCAD each tab's paperspace is considered a viewport in its internal database. So, if you go to the layer explorer or use VPLAYER, while in paperspace (NOT inside a viewport) you should be able to freeze layers on that tab (which is actually paperspace on that layout tab). Note that this only works for objects drawn in paperspace (i.e. not in a viewport). It doesn't seem to work this way in BricsCad. Also, in bricscad a regen is often necessary to show the current vplayer setting.Joe Dunfee
