Xclip compatibility

Hello,I came across what seems to be a compatibility issue with Autocad´s Xclip and Bricscad´s. We normally use an Xternal Refference in Model space and then a viewport in paper space to control visibility, scale, etc, however a new draftman more used to Xclip followed the procedure that I describe in the following lines:We have drawings that were created using Xclip command in Autocad as follows:1- In paper space insert an external refference from a plan drawing2- Do an xclip of a section3- Change layer status to show only elements of interest4- Save in Autocad5- Open in Bricscad, layer management was lost6- In the Bricscad drawing changing layers to the Xclip drawing changes the layer visibility variable in all viewports, in the drawing created by Autocad the layer visibility seems to be attached to the current viewport, however, I was unable to find out the viewport, I guess it created some kind of dummy viewport. Please comment if there is a way to make behave similarly.Regards,José

  • Do you have "Visretain" set to 1 (on.) If it is off, layers from an xref drawing will be visible as they are in the file being x-referenced. If it is on, the layers will be as they last were in the file doing the referencing. I don't know how the variable works between AutoCAD and Bricscad but know that's how it works in each of the two programs. - Hope this is helpful.

  • The system variable VISRETAIN controls, both in AutoCAD and Bricscad, whether the layer settings of the xref are saved in the parent drawing. This allows you to change color and visibility of xref layers in the parent and retain those settings between sessions. Alexander Van Heuverzwyn,Bricscad

  • Josethe xclip on autocad pspace is rectangular or polygonal?AR

  • Autocad the layer visibility seems to be attached to the>current viewport, however, I was unable to find out the >viewport, I guess it created some kind of dummy viewport. I've never used Xclip, so my info may not apply here, but AutoCAD does have what you might call a dummy viewport. Each layout tab (paperspace) is considered to be a viewport. Note that this is not a viewport with a boundry or anything visible. It is the layout tab itself. If you have a layout tab with multiple viewports, but double click outside of all of them and switch to paperspace, you are now considered by Autocad to be in that "dummy" viewport. If you look at your layer explorer, you will see a column for freezing/thawing that "paperspace" viewport. It is very confusing because it is not something you expect. Joe Dunfee
