Ramblings...

Not sure what V9 has done for me besides insite frustration that I paid good money for what appears a rather buggy V8 upgrade. Honestly, I try using V9 because I spent money thinking I was getting more bang for my buck but seems I find myself reverting back to V8 to get my work done.I was really hoping the Bricscad folks would have come through with the Linux upgrade(they've been holdin' that carrot out for some time now)before tackling another leap in the MS platform! I'd be willing to deal with these sorts of bugs to work on a stable linux platfrom . I use linux for everything but my 2d cad work-the first one to provide a viable alternative gets my vote.I want to belive but feel more and more like I'm being led into an empty dream...

  • I too am having problems with V9. I know I should submit as support requests, but it is easier to jump back to V7 or V8. V9 seems to open drawings and then end up with corrupted data that 'restore' cannot fix. I am getting in the habit of not saving anything in V9 if I open it with V9 in error. Not sure if it me or the program...but don't have time to figure it out now.

  • Joe,going by the information provided, there is a good chance that you keep hitting the same problem,in other words: a problem that only requires a single fix, although it now causes trouble with multiple drawings.Your (and our) frustration can probably be summed up like this:How is it possible that a new Bricscad version has trouble with drawings that were not troubling previous versions?V9 uses a more recent version of the ODA DwgDirect library than V8.This lib supports more recently added dwg entities/features. In other words: if a drawing uses such recent dwg feature, any problem with this feature went unnoticed in V8,because it made no attempt to process it.In V9 the feature will be interpreted and a memory representation will be made for it,and if it contains unexpected values (e.g. data corruption) then this may indeed result in trouble that did not occur in V8.What can we do to avoid this:the simple way is to stop supporting new dwg formats... which is not really an option. So we proceed with great care, keeping in mind that many of our clients use our product to earn their living. In the unfortunate case a problem is reported, we do the best we can to remedy it with absolutely minimal delay. If you care to submit a support request we will be glad to immediately investigate it and start working on a solution.Kind regards

  • Hi James,Regarding the LINUX issue I refer again to the post "new version" #23 on the Bricscad LINUX forum. There is no reason to change any statement I made there. We are working hard on it.I hope you stay with us.Thanks erik

  • I appreciate the response and do understand all good things take time. I will continue to anticipate the linux version and will continue to support Bricscad on whatever platform it exists simply to insure there is a viable alternative in an open alliance format.

  • Hans,I appreciate your response and sorry for the delay in replying. I will follow this up soon when I get a little bit of a break in my present workload and can send in a support request that makes some sense. In the meantime, I am saving drawings under acad2000 format using ver 9 and this seems to be working.Joe
