Orthogonal Panning

We used to use ACAD 2005, and were able to pan orthogonally. This was extremely helpful when creating layouts of wall elevations that required match lines, due to length, or width. Is this available in BricsCAD, or does anyone know of an add-on, or LISP routine, that will allow this.

  • Just turn on Ortho by pressing F8 or using the Orthomode command, and then use the Pan command.

  • Thank you ! In ACAD 2005 this was accomplished by pressing shift, and click and drag with the middle button. Do you suppose BricsCAD could be "taught" to do the same thing, or something similar?

  • I don't know what's planned by Bricsys, but for that thing you were talking about (getting two viewports aligned while showing different parts of the same geometry-- is that what you meant?), I'd do that by copying the first viewport, using F8 or holding down Shift to keep the copy aligned with the original, and then dragging the left & right center grips of the new viewport to the part of the model you want to show, and then use the Move command with F8 or Shift to put the viewport where you want it on the page. That way, you don't have to unlock the new viewport to change its view to the part of the model you want. If you do that with an ortho pan you have to unlock the viewport first and then lock it again afterward. One thing that comes in handy with this type of operation is that you can even drag one edge of the viewport over the opposite edge, so right becomes left & vice versa. I have a lisp-generated Duplicate in Place command, so what I actually use is that, followed by dragging one side edge of the new viewport over the other so the two viewports now show the whole model, then dragging the other side of the new viewport over the part of the model that I want to omit from the view.

  • thanks for the input. I will have to try out your method.
