Design Center?

Do you know if there is an add on with simmilar functionality as AutoCADDesign Center? Is someone willing to make one?

  • I've never actually used this function in Autocad but after googling it and checking out its functionality, isn't this more or less what the drawing explorer does anyway? It would be very easy to use a drawing as an 'object' library and just drag and drop between open drawings in the explorer(perhaps having a separate drawing for each unique set of blocks, symbols etc). For the sake of a few missing functions it all seems to be there? Just my two cents-I could be wrong!

  • Yes it's almost there. Thank you for replying btw :)One potential customer doesn't like that in the Drawing Explorer you have to open the dwg file you want to pick objects from. So if you want to insert some blocks from Old.dwg to your current (active) New.dwg you will have to reactivate Old.dwg after you start the Insert command from the explorer, because now it's the Old.dwg that is the active document. My wish would be that the tree structure in the lower left part of the Drawing Explorer would let you select items (block, layers etc) without opening the drawing in Bricscad.

  • just a simple question: how do you suggest Bricscad lets you select items (blocks, layers, etc) without opening the drawing... errr, your suggestions are very welcome...

  • Sorry Ragnar, just kidding ;-)You're absolutely right that at present the Drawing Explorer is only scratching the surface of what it potentially can offer. User reactions have triggered fruitful discussions among our developers, resulting in interesting ideas which we are eager to give a try. It is our intention to scratch a bit deeper than the surface before the end of this year.Best regards

  • I see what you mean and that's what I told my potential customer also, how do you think ADC reads the dwg file without opening it -)But now Bricsys tells me this, case (almost) closed:"This year we hope to implement two improvements on the drawing explorer. One in thetop "open drawings" panel and a second one in the "Drawings" panel.1. In the "open drawings" panel it should become possible to browse drawings withoutchanging which drawing is current. Then instead of "insert the block in model/paperspaceof the same drawing" we would have "insert this block in whatever drawing is currentnow". This should allow to easily insert multiple blocks from other open drawings intothe current drawing.2. In the "Drawings" panel we would add the feature to briefly fully open a certaindrawing in order to view its full block content, allowing the user to insert a blockfrom there into the current drawing. This 'source' drawing is closed as soon as you dosomething else. This should allow to easily insert blocks from various drawings withoutkeeping them permanently open.We hope these implementations will be useful, and we would appreciate to hear from youwhich improvement matters most to you."I think that is great news and it makes Drawing Explorer more like ADC in this matter, while we still have all functions for Layers, Blocks etc together in one place!
