Monitor setting
This isn't really a question regarding Brics but I figured this is a cad forum so I'll ask anyway. I just got a new 24" monitor from Dell and noticed while in a drawing that some of the colors (green, magenta, and etc.) are real intense and bright causing a headache. Is this typical for flat monitors?
Tried adjusting the brightness/contrast settings to no avail. Anyone know what other settings would effect this? I may have to just get used to it since this is my first flat screen.

Tim,
Your monitor may have come with a disk that will install a detailed "Control Center" utility. This may contain a more detailed color correction option within it.

If both magenta and green are too bright then color correction wouldn't be the first thing I would consider. Magenta and green are complementary colors and if they are both too bright then all colors must be too bright. What I would advise:
- Try setting brightness and contrast to (very) low. I have brightness set to 20% and contrast to 35%. Your ideal settings will of course depend on the ambient light in your working environment.
- Most flat panels have a setting for sharpness. Try reducing the sharpness. But the image on a flat panel will always be sharper than that on a ctc-monitor. This takes some getting used to.
- Try playing around with the color tone. This changes all the colors to a "warmer" or "cooler" setting.
- I don't know if this is common, but on my monitor there is an auto adjustment feature which somehow focuses the screen.
- I find that running my screen at 60 Herz results in a more pleasant image than running it at 75 Herz. Remember to auto adjust after resetting the frequency.
You could also try changing the background color in BCad from black to dark grey.
