unsuccesful XREF reload

Sometimes there need to be changes in one of the XREFs, but it so happen that after I change the referenced drawing, the changes refuses to come into affect in the drawing referencing.  Even if I hit reload. Occasionaly even if I detach the XREF and attach it again.

  • I have experienced a few oddities with xref'd files. Most are inconsistent and I have not found a way to reliably reproduce. I do not recall a problem with having the changes updated though.

Are you speaking of layer changes in the referenced file by any chance. You likely already know these would not appear in the working file when reloading if VISRETAIN is set to 1 (on) but just in case...

I wonder what you have XLOADCTL set to? I have been working with it set to 0 lately.

  • No I did not know about VISRETAIN so thank you, I can't even find it in the command reference.

(I'm telling you its good that you guys are here)

  • Hi Yuval... I know what you mean about the docs. It can be difficult to find out what you need to know at times and so often I am missing something it seems everyone else already knows!. As for the variable, it is available in the settings dialog. I found it very useful to take some time and look through the settings dialog. It supplies some explanation of variables and identifies if they are drawing specific or system wide. There are a lot of them so I take a look through a few at a time and search the internet for more info when I see things I don't know.

For the VISRETAIN, open the settings dialog and type reference in the search box (english version at least) and it jumps to the settings related to XREFs. In many cases (not all) there is a command with the same name as the variable that will change the setting.

The settings dialog view is a good advice - I'll adpot it
