freezing certain layer on certain viewport

In paperspace, when I freeze a certain layer in a viewport (which is in an XREF!) it still plots it and sadly does not remember my command after I save-close-reopen the file. any suggestions?

    Dear Yuval,
    regardless, whether you freeze the layer inside viewport by "Freeze" or by "VpFreeze" -
    that layer should not be visible in display *and* in plot, of course.

    So it sounds like a bug ... can you please file a support request ? Probably with a sample dwg
    and please tell, which layer you "freeze" resp. "vpfreeze" ... this will help to investigate.

    You did not mention it so I will suggest you look at VISRETAIN. It is a drawing variable to control whether the changes made to the XREF layers are used in place of the values from the XREF file. I have VISRETAIN=1 in my template drawings.
