AutoCad Compatibility Issue.

I had to abandon using another Intellicad product because although it was good at reading autocad dwgs, autocad did not like reading it's drawings, or even autocad dwgs that had been modified by it. Is this an issue with BricsCad too ? Our completed drawings get sent to autocad users who have to be able to use and modify them.  I understand it was probably just Autodesk being deliberately difficult ?

  • I believe Acad gives a warning that the file was not created by it, but as an Icad user since '98 if I ever had a legitimate compatibility complaint either way it was a long time ago.

Others regularly open my files. I have had instances where my version is too recent (the Acad user can't afford to keep up) and some people still try to open zipped xref files without extracting - the empty title block syndrome.

  •  We regually send them to peopl using AutoCAD.

We also have one copy of AutoCAd that we chaeck drawings on and we have not found any issues with the files made in Bricscad.  AutoCAD does give you warning that the file was not made in AutoCAD.  If you plot in AutoCAD, sometimes it says there are unresolved layers.  But it looks and plots fine.

  • If you save as AutoCAD R13 there will be no warning of any kind because it was in R14 Autodesk started to add there "secret signature" in the dwg files.

Do a test first, save as R13 and then open it again to see that it works OK.

  • I've never had a complaint... I work with lot of engineering companies with AutoCAD..  Also Surveyors, who use Carlson tech...

The only issue i have from time to time is "can you downsave to r2004 or 2000 format...".

  • Same here. The only problem I ever heard of was the message Autocad pops up whenever it opens a drawing that's been edited with a competitor's product.

There's a way for the Autocad user to turn that useless annoyance off, but I can't remember offhand what it is.

  • The Autocad system variable involved is DWGCHECK if set to 0, the warning is suppressed.
