Add words to spell check

When using the spell checker there are a number of wrds and abbreviation that I click Add when I spell check but it never remembers them.  Is there something I need to set so that the spell checker remembers my unique words?

Also it seems to struggle with anything in parenthesis and hypenated words.

  • You have to add a reference to your custom dictionary in the settings first.
Use the SETTINGS command and type "custom" in the input box at the top.
Use the arrow keys until you find "Custom spelling dictionary".
Supply a reference to a *.dic file. The file doesn't have to exist.

  • Please read the 'To add a new custom dictionary' item in the Bricscad Help under User Guide / Creating Entities / Working with Text / Checking Spelling.

  • @ Louis:
The Help doesn't mention that you have to use the SETTINGS command to tell BC which file to use.
The Help speaks about a *.cus file, but in the settings the standard extension is *.dic (but you can also select a *.cus file).

  • The Bricscad Help does mention the DCTMAIN and DCTCUST system variables under Dictionary Settings ....

  • @ Louis:
    I stand corrected.

  • Please notice that it is not necessary to edit the DCTMAIN and DCTCUST system variables in the Settings dialog. The Change Dictionaries procedure - as explained in the Help - lets you edit these variables in a dialog box.

  • Adding a blank customer dictionary and selecting in the dialog box did the trick.  Thanks for the help.

However why doesn't the program ship with a blank cutom file so you can just start adding words to it?  Other programs such as AutoCAD or Word do not require you to do this.
