Disappearing Grid

Last night I made a very simple drawing of around 70mm x 30mm. It had a grid of units 1 x 1. I saved that drawing and went to bed.

This morning I opened the drawing. No grid, and no matter what I try I can't get it back.

I've created a new drawing and can't get a grid to display there, either.

What might I have done wrong?

    Solved my own problem.

    I'd rendered the model, and thought the "Hide" option undid the "Shade" option.

    Entering the command "shademode 2d" corrected the problem. Strangely, there doesn't appear to be a menu option for this command.
