my expirience with bricscad

Hello, ive just spend my free licence of bricscad, and i heave probed it
extensively.. Here are some my observations (sorry for longer post):

Bcad is a really great program, and because it will be probably the only cad
runnig on linux in short time, it is the only one one for me.  Unfortunatelly
up to time testing linux builds are not running on my system, so ive tested
windows version.

There are many of features, that suprised me, that are implemented and working
seamessly. Like refedit, pspace tabs, layer statuses, select cycling, acad
compatible lisp interpreter...  That several things, which slowed down my
proceeding are listed here:

- not fully customizable mouse click. Hardcoded fluent zoom/pan on
Crtl-shift-button are very close to my demanded window/previous zoom, but
needs more time and attention. Anyway, ive become accustomed and using it as
is implemented without pain.

- As worse limitation appeared imposibility to define shortcuts for snap menu
on middle click. Im usually, for example, locating proper entity by cursor,
then mid-click and pres-m to snap middle. Short, simple, efficient. Now im
forced to mid-click - search middle point icon - search my entity again. In
addition this menu appears differently in dependence in what corner of drawing
area was cliked..

- Next behavior, which was confusing from the begining was that: If set
PICKDRAG 1 - selection works as excepted, but unselection not. If i pick on
nothing, or drag window over empty area, selection persists. To clear selection
im forced to search and press escape. (how many times ive pressed f1 insted!)

- No matter how pickdrag is set, some tools still desire two click. Like trim.

- Nice suprise was, that bricscad can select cycling of overlapping entities.
Shortcut shift-space is a little bit finger-breaking (one key shortcut
should be more comfortable imo), but im not using it so
frequently. But on some commands does not respect it. For example selection of
first entity for matchprop.

- matchprop besides doesn't matches all text proprieties from mtext to dtext
  (maybe i missed some setting?)

- Second in a row of my work inhibitors was implementation of "shift to
acquire" POLARMODE 8. I would like to
1) search propper intersection, target cursor on it.
2) Yellow "X" appears as a response "yes there is it"
3) and _then_ i _only_hit_ shift to acquire track point..
Now bcad works differently: I have to
1) press-and-hold shift at first,
2) then search intersection,
3) then release shift.
(in my case even: 4) drive-away 5) pres-hold shift 6) drive back to acquire 7)
release )
but it can be probably habituated..

- refedit works ok, but if i add, change, or deleted some attributes inside it,
it doesnot respect change. I need to create new block. _-refedit also behaves
differently from cmdline and from lisp.

- sometimes dimcontinue behaves curiously. If i want to continue from current
(in my case stationing) dimension, i have to at first create some liear
dimension, then call dimcontinue again, then it behaves correctly. Hard to
explain shortly. But can be bypassed.

- I would like to intercede to implement two snap modes: perpendiculary and
mid/(or user defined fraction - 1/3 1/5) between two points. It is usefull,
it saves time for drawing many of single-purposed auxiliary lines.

It is all, what i found as wrong (the worst for me is imposibility to define
shortcuts for snap menu - wihout any doubts) Otherwise im really pleased and
satisfied with it. I've was filled some bugs and feature requests, because i
hope it can be usefull also for others.

                                    thanks for reading, pk .)

  • not perpendicular, but _parallel_ snap mode is missing, of course..
