bricscad cad easy to crash

WHEN  DWG FILE > 2 MB , BRICSCAD CAD EASY TO CRASH

  • I must admit, few of my files are larger than ~500k, though I regularly receive files of say 5Mb and up to 45Mb to use as a base for my work.

I "trim" them to sometimes 10% orignal size and the files don't appear much the worse for it.

Coming from DOS, 8086 and a 10Mb hard disk (30 years ago) I am painfully aware of entities which take space/speed and crash computers/CAD programs, I have to say to me current versions of Bricsys are rock solid. I honestly can't remember when I last had a crash and I used to think I could crash CAD programs faster than anyone.

I had been meaning to suggest here that people investigate files using Audit for a start, purging and filtering such entities as empty Text items (killdots.lsp) - recently many files contain sometimes thousands of those - some macros create them.

I can't help wondering of some problems are not caused by particular files, which can sometimes be made to behave by cutting and pasting into a blank file, replacing the original.

  • There is no relation between filesize and stability.

Our V10.4.10 release has fixes for instability of the panning mechanism when PANBUFFER is used. So there are two things that can be attempted:

    - switch panbuffer off and see if the crashes still occur

    - upgrade to V10.4.10
