Test drive of bricscad 10.4.9 build 18980 in Ubuntu 9.04

Hi all, have used bricscad for linux a few times to check it out on my 5 year old PC. Below are my observations, I hope that the information is useful:

My system:

OS: ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty)
Kernel: Linux 2.6.28.19-generic
Desktop: Gnome 2.26.1

Hardware as reported in sysinfo:
Memory: 615.6 MB
Processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.50 GHz

Drawing file size: 942kb
Drawing with 3 paperspace layouts
On opening entities on PS layout comes all jumbled
zoom all / zoom extents does not solve the problem
regen also does not solve the problem

Model space displays perfectly
zoom all seems to hang the drawing, but after about 3-5 seconds displays onscreen.

Zooming in again is fast.

Making a new layout:

Can make a new vport. But image is distorted and entities displayed beyond the view port.

Same thing happens in a new small drawing created with bricscad.

Conclusion:

Working with viewports is not feasible on my system.

Modelspace:

Zoom in/ zoom out is smooth
Zoom extents / zoom all: takes some time but is OK

Tried some commands in a new drawing:
Made some entities and dimensioned them. Tried to insert a few object.

On selection, the selected object disappears and a few multi-coloured dotted lines are seen a little further away.

dimension:

used dimension tools. Works well. Have not checked dimstyle.

Insert xref:

Inserted a small xref in new drawing. Works

Insert/ attach image:

Allows to browse, choose and image. After giving insertion point, computer hangs and keyboard and mouse get locked. Computer needs to be rebooted by using the power button. Happens consistently, tried it four times.

Thanks to Bricscad team for developing a very promising CAD program for Linux.
