Bricscad 10.6.6 no usable display in drawing windows

I have installed various version of bricscad, but I get no usable display in the drawing window.  All toolbars, command line, etc. are present and fully functioning - (i.e. input is accepted, etc.) i can drawing object, line atc. but I can't see anything where the drawing should be. I can see only cursor and nothing else.

I'm configured for a black background, and I'm getting the whole drawing area in a light gray with only the system main window color visible.  If I change the system appearance window color setting, the color of the drawing tabs will update when I open a new drawing or close an existing drawing.

I'm currently running the default open source video drivers (Radeon) for my ATI Radeon 9200SE graphic card on Kubuntu 10.04 with kde 4.5.1.

I've tried running under both Linux 2.6.32-24-generic and Linux 2.6.35-21-generic kernels with no noted difference.

Thanks

  • On my system Bricscad doesn't run at all with the open source radeon drivers. So far only fglrx works, which means you're in trouble since the last version of fglrx that supported the 9200SE was 8.28.8 from 2006, and that only runs with X.org 6.8. Ubuntu uses a much more recent version, so it will be difficult to install this old fglrx driver. The problem with the open source stack is that it uses Mesa for 3D OpenGL acceleration, but it only supports up to OpenGL 1.5 on most cases. You could try the Galium3D Mesa which AFAIK supports more features than the Classic Mesa, and could work. I think there's a PPA repository for Ubuntu that enables users to easily install these alternative Mesa versions. You should look for Galium3D Radeon R300, sometimes referred to as R300g.

  • Thanks for the reply, but my graphics card features the RV280 chip, while the Gallium drivers are for Model R300.

I will not try to avoid mistake with the video card.
    Thanks anyway

  • This is a common problem, if you can open the program and get a display with menu and command line at the bottom then try this:  at the command line prompt type in 'GLSWAPMODE' hit return key then set it to '2'  you should get everything back up model & paper space AND note this problem is for NVIDIA & ATI video cards.

Also I reported that a clean fresh install of Bricscad for Linux on a 64bit OS does not install all the 32 libraries.  There is somewhere in the forum a series of steps you can follow to getthese libraries installed.

However they should correct this install problem wrt the 64 bit install.  The 32 bit install installs okay.

  • With the latest version 10.6.7 overything works ok. The problem was solved.

    Thanks to all
