Bricscad Pro for LINUX

Hi All,

Let's take away a few doubts.

We certainly will produce a Bricscad Pro for LINUX  including the ACIS engine for 3D modeling. Rendering will also be supported. Favorable upgrade paths of course will be available. Regarding BRX - we are exploring the possibilities: the how's and the when's. Please give us some time to come up with the answers. Hope this makes it absolutely clear that we are serious about Bricscad for LINUX.

Beste regards

  • Loud and clear.

    Thank you so much.

  • I emailed Bricscad and got this repley yesterday:

Vincent,In reply to your email : We have no plans for a Pro version on Linux in theshort term. The Pro components are not (yet) available on Linux:Microsoft's VBA - for obvious reasons, but also ACIS solid modeling and ourBRX SDK are currently not available for Linux. However, if we notice a realdemand in the market, we will definitely also consider a Pro version ofBricscad later on.Kind regards,Bricsys Inc.www.bricsys.com
So, is this a change in the official view?

  • Perhaps that information is incorrect?

(no experience with acis...the magic of google)

  • Hi Vincent,

The decision for a Bricscad Pro for LINUX is definitive. In general: after a long process of consideration at a certain point we decide to communicate about a decision that is made ( my previous post on this forum). Until then, we communicate the previous point of view ( the reply you received). In this case only one day in between, … well that's how it is.

As said we will make ACIS available and add powerful rendering to it. We work on exploring ways to bring BRX functionality to the LINUX product.

    Best regards

  • Thank you for the reply, it makes it understandable.  The pro version will make it possible for me to move to the Linux platform.

  • Spatial has indeed since long (ever ?) a linux version of their modeler, so acis shouldn't be a problem at all.

ARES has already an ACIS modeling kernel in it's linux commander version, even if quite basic one.

About VBA.... that one will be difficult and, I guess, quite unimportant for commercial developers.

The *most* important addition, after ACIS, of course, would be the BRX... without it the amount of

available external (professional) apps would be ridiculously small.

Besides strict binding to MFC (sigh...) for UI parts, I think the porting of the non-UI ones shouldn't be

    too difficult.....

  • Hi, this is good news. A must to be a long term cad alternative.

    /Mikael

  • Good news, any hint about timing?

  • At last for so many years now i got a Cad on linux than can compete Autocad, Briscad on usb stick! Thank you.

  • I was wondering if there will be a discounted price for upgrading to the Pro version (when it's released) if you already have a license for Classic? Or if you will have to purchase Pro separately?
