Open a dwg with all xrefs unloaded?

For many of my customers this would be very useful.

Opening a dwg with many xrefs may take a long time.

Do we have a method for opening with all xrefs unloaded?

  • Just hide the xref's. Move them to a different folder, or rename the folder they're in. Then the main dwg file won't be able to find the xref's and won't be able to load them.

If they're all relative path xref's, you can move or copy the main dwg file to a different folder and leave the xref's where they are.

  • Thanks, the last advice may work, I'll check with this specific client if the paths are relative. In that case we have a solution. Otherwise I don't know. We are not allowed to rename folders. Maybe I can copy the dwg to a local folder and then, for a moment, deconnect the network drive or simething like that.

In this specific case we are poening a dwg just to read some attributes and areas, and we don't need the xrefs.

  • There are some scenarios (with absolute xref's) for what you need,  where OS command SUBST can help. (to map a folder to an available drive letter).

but if the xrefs are not besides, but in folder under the main dwg folder this will not help. then you have to move the main dwg to another folder *or* ZIP/RAR the xref's to hide/dissapear  if you dont want to move or rename them.
