MTEXT editor zoom factor

It seems that the in-place MTEXT editor always zooms out so that the whole block of MTEXT is visible.  With a very large block, this makes the letters to small to see.

Is there any way to change this?

I have tried using Wordpad as the alternate editor, but then I see all the weird MTEXT formatting commands for new line, etc. which I don't want to deal with.

    I agree. The MTEXT editor is very crude and warrants some attention. When a block edit is started the font style dialog is often brought up over the text you want to edit, and when ALT-tabbing between applications the focus is not restored to the MTEXT edit window, it goes to the font style dialog which is irritating.

    I also have problems with the automatic zoom.  Although, in my case, it has been for small 1 or 2 character text boxes.  It goes in too close.  I would prefer the ability to turn this feature off.
