Selecting objects--total noob question

When selecting objects, how do I set it so that when the window crosses part of an object, is selects and highlights the entire object?

I've dug through the user preferences but can't figure it out.

To make a "crossing" instead of a "window" selection, drag from right to left. Or, during any prompt to select objects, select "Crossing window" from the pop-up menu, or enter C from the keyboard.
