Turn off pdfunderlay?

How do you turn off (keep an image from showing) a pdf underlay?  I've tried using Drawing Explorer --> PDF Underlay, then unchecking the "Loaded" box, then exiting Drawing Explorer, but the pdf still displays?

Am I missing something?

    To switch off the display of a PDF underlay, select the underlay then under 'Misc' set the 'Show Underlay' property to 'No' in the Properties bar.
