PDF underlays slows things down....

Running 64-bit Windows 7, 2.9gig processor (Athelon), 4 gig RAM.

PDFs attach just fine, but zooming and panning take forever.  Am I missing something?

Thanks!

  • ...yes I can confirm it ...but you are "lucky" man if this is only thing, why is v11 slowly. I don't need underlay PDF to make v11 slowly. ;I

I test it, but drawings which works in v10 fine is in v11 slowly - for panning and drawing, it's imposiible to make real work with it. I'm waiting for an update that fix this.

Because of this I am waiting to purchase update.

  • I have had the same issues.  With a PDF panning, zooming and drawing are very slow.  I f you try to draw on top of the PDF,  the cursor hangs up as it crosses the edge of the frame.  I have also noticed this same behavoir if a large image (jpg, jp2 or png) is inserted.  This REALLY slows things down if you are trying to trace details from an aerial photo or PDF. I have tried swithing the
image quality" from high to draft.  It doesn't seem to do anything.

  • I think I messed around once or twice with pdf underlays in V.10, but don't recall having issues like we do with V.11.  Has anyone tried a .tif?

  • Version 11 for me looks like joke. Bad one. Everything is slower, I can't open some files. I have to unnistal v11 and install v10  to work normally. I hope they can fix it.

I have the same software system configuration like Tom. Hardware is Intel COre 2 duo 2.53, 6GB RAM.

  • Now I traying v11.1.11-1 and it looks better and even a little faster, then in v10. Well done guys!

...now add multiline support and fix saving size for properties bar :)

...but one miracle a day is enough. Great, thanks again!

  • @Michal, could you please file a support request and attach a sample drawing that can no longer be opened on V11 while it works normally with V10? We did not receive any similar feedback and would be very grateful if you provided us with an example so we can apply a timely fix.

Concerning 'everything is slower': Juraj filed a support request and attached a sample drawing which clearly illustrated a considerable slowdown during zooming. Upon investigation we noticed that it was caused by an optimization to speed up working with Pdfunderlays. This zoom slowdown also occurred when no underlays were attached. Meanwhile we have reworked this optimization and made sure that there is no longer any deterioration of the zoom performance. V11.1.11 has been released earlier today and contains this fix.

The above makes clear that we share your feeling that working with pdfunderlays is slow. We license the dlls that take care of generating the pdfunderlay display and the snapping to the pdf content, and are communicating with the provider in order to obtain improved and corrected libraries.

By the way, pdfunderlay was not included in V10, if a pdf was displayed in a drawing, perhaps it was an OLE embedded object?

  • I upgraded, and things do work a little better.  However, when I'm zoomed in close enough to acutually do any work, zoom/pan is as slow as ever.

  • Also the display of PDF is a bit iffy. I get a lot of A4 and A3 drawings on 1:100 and if Im going to trace anything of this I really have to zoom in to deep to be useful to get it sharp.

Using a white background helps a bit but I usually use grey (251 as that tends to be the only grey that properly displays snapgrid) wich is not very good .

Has anyone tried black background , if not DON´T , black on black is not very visible.

Havent really seen any slow problem.

  • Hans-In v11.1.11-1 file works fine. I also noticed that software is faster. When I noticed this problem in future version and if I will have permission to send file - I will do it. DO you have in plans 64bit version of Bri?

Patrik - could you tell us what is your system configuration?

    Regards,

    Michał

  • HMM !

Have been playing with PDFs again. Guys you are right its slow !

Nice that you can snap to lines etc though . Will be great when the speed gets there.
