Graphics performance

I recently installed v11 on my WinXP partition to check if some customizations I made to my Linux version will work on windows as well. They do, but what I noticed is that the graphics performance on Linux lags behind quite considerably. Although glxgears yields the same framerate on windows and linux, zoom and pan seems to be much faster on windows, regardless whether the display is set to GDI or OpenGL. Most notably, damage to the graphics area (obscuring windows, menus) is very slowly repaired under Linux. I don't know if this is a driver issue (I have an intel 865g integrated graphics with the IEGD driver on windows and tried several versions of the intel driver on linux) or if this is due to WxWidgets, X-windows or whatever...

Anybody has a configuration where Win/Linux performance is on par?
