UNITS - change, but no scaling.

I often get drawings from consultants drawn in Imperial UNITS which I need to convert into Metric. When I change the drawing units (say from Inches to Millimeters) then only the UNITS change, but the drawing is not scaled accordingly. It would be really nice to have a scale option which can convert the actual dimensions from one unit to another.

  • Have you considered inserting the consultant's drawing as a block or xref? Scaling would then be automatic plus you would keep "your stuff" neatly separated from the underlay.

Yes, that's what I actually do. However, I often have to go into the external drawings to do some editing. The technical quality of drafting (separation into Layers, precision, etc) is often very, very low, especially in drawings from Landscape Architects and from Services engineers who use a specialist applications which generate DWG files only for exchange.

Another problem is that sometimes UNITS are set to Inches, but the drawing is actually dimensioned to Millimeters.

I guess unit conversion and scaling could be easily done in a LISP script and does not need to got into the Bricscad function set.  However, in Autocad, when you change Units, then a dialogue pops up, whether you also want to scale the drawing.
