Bricscad illegal ?

Hi,

An Autodesk sales contacted me for speaking about Autocad Architecture and Revit. I don't know how but it appears that he knows i'm using Bricscad.

He told me that Bricscad was an illegal product, being a copy of the Autodesk products with the DWG format.

He told that  when autodesk will take to court bricssys and when he will win, all the customers (us) will have to stop tu use Bricscad.

I  consider possiblly to upgrade to V11 but i would like to know if Bricscad V11 is really a legal product. I think yes,but what is the reality ?

Thx in advance

  • If it's true, it has taken a long time to mount a prosecution. I began using Intellicad in 1998 and seem to remember Autode$k trying it on and being rejected once in all that time.

  • Hi Richard, I am simply a new Bcad user. The fact that Briscad have contactable offices and Addresses in just about every major country I consider them ligit. They would not stick there necks out like that if there was any possibility the were selling an illegal program or infringing anyone eleses intellectual property. However I am not a lawyer.

I am so happy someone is taking on autodesk as they have been ripping us off and overcharging and underservicing us for years! with a product that is pretty bad, bugs, can't hatch to save itself,crashes............I am so over Autocad, Good on you Bcad!

  • Personally, I consider that sales technique the illegal action. Then again I am by no means qualified to express a legal opinion.

  • This seems to be common practice for many Autodesk dealers.

  • Bricsys is a company in good standing since its incorporation almost 9 years ago.  We always have run our business carefully.  The ins and outs of intellectual property law with respect to computer software are complex.  Therefore, Bricsys has taken specialized legal advice along the road of the creation of its competing product.  We have always worked on the safe side and have created a product that, to the best of our knowledge, does not infringe upon any valid third party rights.  So believe our many customers…

  • Erik's is a very restrained response to an inflammatory question. That is, until you consider who it is that wants you to believe that every dwg compatible cad program is illegal. Autodesk has an army of lawyers, which is just one tool in their toolbox. Autodesk has many tools in a very big toolbox. Over the years we've seen how they wield themselves. My personal favorite is the nag tag for AutoCAD users upon opening a dwg made by any non-Autodesk product. Punish your own customer, while lying to him/her at the same time. Only an Autodesk marketing wonk could come up with that one.

  • Hi all, hi Greg,

I also do not like some of the ways of how Autodesk treats it's customers. The mentioned "nag tag" is a thing that is unnecessary from my point of view. However, you can turn it off (either in the dialog itself or with the sysvar DWGCHECK).
