Slow with big files

Hello

Here are my specs :

Intel Core2duo 2ghz

4gb ram

nvidia geforce 8800 gts 640mb

OS : Archlinux + vmware for windows XP

I'm currently working with dwg files which contain an entire city (75mbytes)

I want to move from Autocad 2008 which I use under vmware to bricscad v11

But when I tried to open the file, everything is painfully slow.

There are no problems with small files, but when it gets big it's impossible to work

I checked the opengl capabilites of bricscad, but nothing changes...

Is there some release date when Bricscad will reach Autocad 2008's performance level ?

Or is it a problem which can be solved now ?

Thank you !

  • I've seen this happen when the dwg has many solid/gradient fills. If your files don't have them, what size do you consider "big"?

In my system (Athon X2) Bricscad feels as fast as AutoCAD in a VM.

  • When I get rid of fills it's faster, but it's still more than 50% slower than autocad in VM which runs very smooth,  it's a 75mbytes file, a city of almost 70km/70km  2 layers with buildings and roads, when I zoom very close it gets faster, but when I unzoom it gets 10 seconds between my mouse gesture and the response...

Why would fills cause such problems ?

  • Core2Duo 3.8 Ghz (acceleration)

     8gb ram

    nvidia 9600GT

    openSUSE 11.3 x86-64

     solid/gradient fills - miss

    dwg file 15 Mb

    zoom too slowly
