MtmdEdit Text Editor

Since I haven't seen any remarks about it in the forum, I've got to speak up about the freeware app called MtmdEdit. This text editor is the finest piece of work to come along since Daniel Marcotte's DocTabs. In point of fact, this little sweetie predates DocTabs. I originally found MtmdEdit as a freeware tool for AutoCAD and used it for some years. Upon switching to Bricscad, I realized just how much I missed having the best little text editor that ever existed. The author, Mansur Mamkin has been kind enough to port the program to Bricscad as a genuine BRX. Life is good again.

When editing Dtext, both AutoCAD and Bricscad are limited to editing just one piece of Dtext at a time, tedious, to say the least. With MtmdEdit you can select a whole grundle of them & whistle thru them in one editing shot. It filters for Dtext entities only, tossing out everything else, so you can window or crossing and not have to pick thru the mess. Invoking the editor can happen before or after making a selection set. Mtext and DimText can only be edited one at a time tho.

Editing dimension text is much easier. I don't use dimension prefixes or suffixes the "normal" way anymore either. If you add text to dimensions like "(12) Spc's. @ 2'-0" = <>", this editor is the way to do it.

During the several year long wait for a mature Mtext editor, MtmdEdit was a lifesaver, particularly since it displays the control codes for stacked fractions & such. MtmdEdit has settings to control which editor is used for each type of text (Dtext, Mtext or DimensionText). These days, I use the native Mtext editor for Mtext, generally, but since I've got MtmdEdit added to my context menu, either editor can be used for Mtext.

No matter which type of text you're editing, each keystroke updates the screen, so you see what you're getting, while you're making the edit. Sweet.

There are no instructions or anything, so you need to mess with the editor to find it's capabilities. As you learn what it does in the context of how you use it, the real power of this editor is truly amazing. I've never had any negative issues using this editor; no Dwg database issues or problems with opening dwgs in either Bricscad or AutoCAD, misplaced text or anything weird.

I want to publicly thank Mansur Mamkin for making this little gem of an editor available to everyone.
