Draw Order

I am having problems with figuring out my draworder.  When working in Model Space everything works fine.  When I try to add text in my paper space views it all hides behind the aerial photo that I have in model space.  I have tried about everything I can think of, but can't seem to get the text in paper space on top of the view.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

  • Is the "hiding" only occuring with your hardcopy? If yes then look into the plot options in the print dialog. One of the toggles will instruct the program to print the entities in paper space after the entities in model space.

As far as I am aware there is no way to interleave or create a mixed stack of paper space and model space entities. It is an all before or all after decision.

    Hope it helps...

  • This "hiding" is both visually on the screen and when printing out.  I have even tried to give the text in paper space an elevation to try to "lift" it up, but that didn't work either.  Everything I do in paper space ends up behind everything within the viewport.  I am using version 11 but I also opened the drawing with version 10 and it was the same.

  • It sounds like a bug. Does it only happen with an image in model space and text in paper space? What happens with a solid hatch in model space and one in paper space?
If it only happens with the image, you could experiment with a different version of the image file, saved in a different format or by a different photo editor.
In any case, you should file a support request and attach the DWG file and the image file.

  • Hi Anthony,  It is not just the photo that is giving me the problem, even the line work in model space is on top of my text in paper space.  frustrating. Thanks.

  • Kevin, is this only happening when you are working in model space through a viewport in the paper space?

I know it does not help you but it may give you hope to know that I do not have this problem. My text in paper space is visible above my model space entities... As long as the plot option for Plot Paperspace Last is toggle on. Are you sure you have it toggled on.

Perhaps you can go to Page Setup and take another look...

  • Thanks Greg!  I went to page setup and it wasn't checked.  After checking it.....it worked.  I knew I was missing something simple, but just couldn't seem to find the issue.  I guess I didn't see it as a print problem.  Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.  I never had that problem before and don't really even remember checking it on or off in the past few years.
