How do I control line width in PDF exports?

How do I control the width of lines when I do a PDF export?  I have a large archetectural drawing, and want the customer to be able to zoom in and see small details.  But, the pen width is much to fat, and it obscures the numbers.  I attempted to control this by setting the page size to a E-size, and setting the pen style to one I had with fine weight pens.  However, the PDF is still way too fat.  I have tryed turning the "use plot styles" option and and also with it off, but it is not doing much good.

How do I control PDF line weigths?

  • You can toggle lineweights in Adobe Reader using the F5 key. As far as exporting, I assign lineweights either By Layer or to the individual entities and use the Export command in Bricscad.

(you'll need to select Adobe.pdf in the drop down box)

  • Thank you for that bit of information.  That will save a lot of effort.

I have had problems wtih some of the PDF's saved from Bricscad, other than the line weight issue.  But, since it is so easy to create and preserves the layers, it is my prefered method.

When I had problemw with the Bricscad PDF's, I resorted to printing to a PDF printer driver.  I had more control and get reliable results, but loose any ability for the reader to toggle layers.  I also have to print each layout individually.

The reader we use is PDF-Xchange.  I use it because the free version allows for adding notes and dimensions, plus some calcualtions such as area. But, I don't know know if it has the F5 toggle you mentioned. (I am away from my home computer, so I can't use it now)

  • Sorry Joe--my bad

I checked Adobe Reader again and the key-in is actually Ctrl+5, not F5.

"Line Weights" is also a subheading under the View menu in Adobe Reader

(It might be F5 in Adobe Acrobat, or possibly older versions).

PDF-Xchange looks promising, I may give it a try. Thanks for the link
