Video problem

I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I also installed the latest Bricscad beta
V11.3.13-1. I have Nvidia onboard graphics but I have tried a couple different
Nvidia video cards and various (official Nvidia) drivers. With these cards and drivers there
is a problem at startup of Bricscad. The splash screen displays and the window begins to build
then it closes. I have tried loading previous versions of Bricscad but get the same behavior.
Using the onboard video with the default Nouveau driver, the program works fine.
So it seems to be an Nvidia driver problem.
Am I forever stuck with the Nouveau driver and onboard graphics? I can live with it but
I would like to get better video performance for other things besides CAD.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Please just file a support request. The support team is very quick to reply and fixes such problems pretty quickly.

  • Thanks Daniel. I took your advice and submitted a request. If there are any interesting results I'll post them.

  • I received a reply from support. The suggestion was to do a clean install of Ubuntu instead of an upgrade. As soon as I have the time, I'll try it and report results.

  • Sorry for the confusion, but I do not expect that a clean install of Ubuntu will help with your driver issue.

I have added some more diagnostic advice to your support request.

Mainly it repeats things that are mentioned in the forumpost

    GLX problems.

  • Thanks Tijs for your reply. Looks like I'm going to do a clean install anyway because of some hardware changes I want to make. So with that and those things you have suggested to be checked, my weekend is shot! I'll report back ASAP.

  • I finally got my system back together. It works. Here is the working combination :

Clean install Ubuntu AMD 64 10.04 Lucid

    Nvidia driver 195.36.24

Bricscad version 11.3.13 build ID 29045 rev 22252 beta

This woks with the on-board Nvidia chipset Geforce 8300, with a Quadro FX 540 and with a Geforce 9800 GT, all at highest quality.
