  • Hi Stephen,

I remember during the early days of AutoCAD (in the 1990's-early 2000's) , we used a program called  SQUIGGLE at my previous employment/ client place.

    http://www.aay.com/squiggle.htm

The site and the product probably still exist. Check out the URL above.

In our GeoTools program, we have a GT_ROUGHEN command that creates a jagged representation of a line of polyline. A very, very basic version of squiggle for just one polyline. You can set the amount of roughness. You may want to try it out and see.

  • Hi Stephen,

like Rakesh I recall that there used to be a number of routines out there for modifying a drawing to give it a hand sketch look. Key thing to be aware of is that that these routines will modify your drawing.  You could easily lose your original drawing if your not careful.

I suggest looking for a post print process that works with the output from printing. An example of this would be to use PDFCreator to generate a jpg or png image, then open the image produced in a paint application such as Paint.Net. Working with an image may be a bit limiting depending on what you are after, but paint applications tend to provide a lot of different plugins to produce the type of effects you are talking about.

Someone else might know of something that works with PLT or PDF output. PagePlus might work for PDF

  • Hi Stephen,

I second the suggestion given by Jason. I have seen PhotoShop itself have a large number of "special effects" which can be applied to raster lines and masses. You can probably get the "squiggle" effect on your final drawing if you process the raster output from your vector drawing through one of these special effects of image processing.
