File Export Formats

Of course this thread is a directly connected with:

https://forum.bricsys.com/discussion/15921

but I want to focus on general interoperability of Bricscad.

I suppose a lot of the users here does not follow the standard work-flow dictated by the owner of AutoCad ( ex. to 3dMax or Revit ), and maybe not using Adobe Suite (that import dwg and dxf). Bricscad is generally aware of this having a so nice svg exporter.

What I would like (or better, I request from a Cad solution) is the ability to import/export 2d and 3d graphic back and forward my favourite application with the current standard (as ex. Rhino is doing).

Svg, pdf and dxf are ok for 2d export. I would find competitive having also an svg importer: some kind of graphic is easily created by other programs than a cad.

For 3d import/export I suggest obj format. Is supported by any 3d application both in windows that in linux. Of course multiple formats will facilitate to insert Bricscad in different work-flows.

Thank you,

Riccardo

I completely agree, as I explained in this post: https://forum.bricsys.com/discussion/15921

  • I completely agree! I like the svg exporter, but we need more exporters/importers.

I have adressed this issue before but did not get any comments. I do additional modelling in wings3d/blender and render in Thea render, so for me it is essential to get the 3d model to wavefront obj format. Right now I have to use Accutrans in wine to convert an exported dxf file in my work flow. The Autodesk work flow for 3D design where there are no possibilities to export to "general" and widely supported file formats makes it harder to use any non Autodesk software in the design process. Since Bricsys does not try to develop software for every part of the design process but focus on being the best at cad, lets hope they intend to do it more convenient to export and import.

    Mikael
