block question

greetings

I want to know something, I do not know if it is possible, but this is my question.

 

I want to make a block in a drawing and after copy this block to another drawing, but when I modify the first block, the second one change automatically. I know that with reference is possible but when you use references, you call all the first drawing, and sometimes, when the drawing is too big, it is more difficult "to clip" the reference block, and really I only need to copy a little part of the first drawing and when I do a change in the first drawing the second one will be updated.

Hi Jorge,

You can simply save updated block to HDD using WBLOCK command and after to re-define by inserting new one with INSERT command.

Why not create an Xref of the small section you want to cross-reference and attach that Xref to the second drawing and also to first drawing? The Xref is then a sort of sub-assembly.

No, if you create a layer and/or spatial index in the referenced drawing (INDEXCTL > 0), only the needed (non-clipped) entities should be loaded - but I'm not sure if this actually works in Bricscad, see for yourself...

But - unless there is reason not to do so - I would first do what Roy proposed.

Hi Jorga,

Like the others I suggest you look at using XREF instead of Block references. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you look at XCLIP too. This allows you to clip the attached XREF to just what you want to show. REFEDIT should work the same whether it is an Xref or Block to modify within the current drawing space.

If you are attaching large or complicated xrefs, try setting the xref drawing up so that it only has a small numbers of layers showing (freeze most of the layers). Once you have attached and clipped it how you want, you can then unfreeze the layers you need to show. Provided VISRETAIN is set to 1 (default I believe) the drawing with the attached xref will remember the new layer settings.

thanks everybody,

perhaps this question sound very noob, but I am working with some plans of bridges and an important part of the drawing is a section of this bridge, and to many details are extracted from this one, and it will be very easy use xref and xclip for doing these details, also  this plans suffers a lot of changes frecuently, but the answer of my boss was "the problem is if the customer can use xrefs"...T.T.... so sad dont you think?

You mean the customers might be working on a bridge with software they can't use?
