Cras when changing system font
Hi All;
Running a trial system, Version 11.3.16 build 29345 rev 22476.
I opened one of my AcadLT2002 drawings and saved it as a Acad2000 dwg. i did't like the way the fonst looked even though my XFCE4 desktop has anti-ailsing turned on and the font being used was Arial. So I opened up the settings Text styles and went to standard and clicked the pull down menu to selecr Arial MS Unicode from the Arial that was selected and CRASH! Down it all went in a heap!
This is repeatable.
cheers,
john

Hi All;
Following my crash steps but this time doing a tail -f /var/log/everything/current and got this:
Nov 21 13:53:53 [kernel] [ 6443.121931] bricscad[5888]: segfault at 88 ip 00000000eec22fce sp 00000000e5d7abd0 error 4 in libfreetype.so.6.7.1[eec19000+84000]
Found out that :
jserinki7 vde # locate libfreetype.so.6.7.1
/usr/lib32/libfreetype.so.6.7.1
is part of this package:The app-emulation/emul-linux-x86 [20110928] packages
Here: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/emul/emul-linux-x86-20110928.xml
Looks like another 32-64 bits issue.
Perhaps porting Brixcad to native 64bit would fix this?
From a commercail standpoint, I can't really see myself recommending buying this SW if it crashes like this.
Cheers,
john

Hi John,
I also have very bad crash problems and many drawings I can't even open in Linux Bricscad. The crashes are always when working with mtext (moving, copying or editing) and if I remove all text objects from the drawings, I can open them no problem. Removing text objects isn't a workable solution so I'm still using a windows system just for Bricscad. Have had a service request open on this for many months and the latest report is they can no longer reproduce the problem - I think they're just sick of me bitching about it. Anyway, maybe your more technical input might help solve the problem for both of us. - Thanks, and I agree, with this problem it isn't ready for professional use.

ok, I can open dwg2004 files with text.
i do seem to have some broken links but haven't had any crashes yet.
this is running on ubuntu 11.04 and it's the latest linux version.
hope it helps someone.

@ Keith: setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH before running ldd would make things more readable
@ John H.: are you also on 64bit? I did not stumble over this particular issue on my debian 32bit installation so far.
Generally, I have to agree - the linux version currently has to be regarded a choice for enthusiast rather than for professionals, let's hope V12 can change this...

I'm using 32-bit Mint right now although I have had the same problem with several flavors of Linux on several different machines including a Sabayon 64 and an OpenSuse 64. Also used both KDE and Gnome to see if that had any effect (didn't.)Except for the text crashing problem, I think the Linux version of the program is noticeably faster than the Windows version on comparable machines. (Other than that, how did you enjoy Dallas, Mrs. Kennedy.) I look forward to the ironing out of these final problems.0

Hey John"I'm surprised you're also getting the crashing on 32bit Linux. That is disappointing actually.i'm going to have to agree with you, Bricscad is almost there but its not at the professional level yet.use ACADLT2002 in a windowx XP VM on my Gentoo 64 laptop and that has been rock solid for over 5 years. I can't justify asking for budget to get a copy of Bricscad when I can't get it to run with stability.Also, the last time I tried the trial edition on my old dual core laptop running the Xorg drivers on my X1600 based graphics, it would not run at all. I am currently running the ATU proprietary drivers as the Xorg driver on my HD6700 based card have a bug with the external video. The thing with the proprietary drivers is...everything works, googleearth, bricscad, etc. My experience with googleearth and Xorg drivers is patchy.Cheers,john0
