Step or Iges

Is there a utility that anyone would recommend to use with BricsCAD for converting it's native solids to Iges, Step or other 3D format?

Thanks

  • I've been using CAD Exchanger. As they describe it, the GUI version is in beta and thus is available without charge, so cost isn't a issue. Seems to work well enough, although I can't say that I've really stressed it nor am I able to evaluate many of the conversions.

  • it doesn't open DWGs.

    says unrecognized file type.

    Thanks though

  • I don't use cad exchanger (I hold a rhino license), but it claims to be able to convert between ACIS and other mainstream formats - so you would have to export the respective solids with the ACISOUT command first.
  • Knut is correct. A DWG file may contain many (or no) 3-D ACIS objects. To use the converter, selected ACIS objects must first be exported from the DWG file to individual .SAT files using the Insert | ACIS Out menu item or the _acisout command. It is these files that CAD Exchanger can import and then re-export in a different 3-D format.
  • I was missing the ACISOUT step(no pun intended).

    Thanks, it worked
