Editing table cells - V12

New to this table stuff and come across a few snags:

1. How can you split a single cell into (2) rows or columns?

2. How can you edit text position across a whole row or column of cells? I can only do it one cell at a time.

Is it easier just to create the table in excel and then import? Thanks.

1, you can append a new column (left or right),  then merge the other cells by row,

2, you should be able to select a range of cells,  justify the text.

Actually what I'm trying to do is split a single cell into 2 or 3 cells - see attached. Hope it's readable.

The point is that you can only merge cells. So to get the effect you want you have to follow Daniel's advice:
Add an extra column and then merge the cells you don't want to split.
